HOWDY, GILMORE NATION!
We're thrilled to invite you to the 2025 Gilmore Family Reunion.
Get ready for a weekend filled with laughter, love, and
unforgettable memories as we celebrate our roots!
OUR ROOTS
Oral history, genealogy, and DNA testing have traced the origins of the Gilmore family to Russell & Minta Gilmore, who were born into slavery in the early 1800s.
During enslavement, some of Russell & Minta’s children were separated and forcibly migrated across Georgia, Alabama, and Louisiana.
Following Emancipation, some of their descendants reunited in Arkansas.
As of 2024, we’ve uncovered the names of 9 of Russell & Minta’s children: John, Augustus, Stephen, Walker, Mandy, Eugenus, Erastus, Watkins, and Lewis.
Today, they are the ancestors of over 2000 descendants who are dispersed across several states and countries.
REUNION HISTORY
For decades, our family has cherished coming together, which has kept us connected through the generations.
Some descendants of John Gilmore (through his son Howard Gilmore) had informal gatherings dating back to the 1940s, with Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner traditions. In the 1990s, they began hosting a summer reunion, and in 1995, they expanded the reunion to include other descendants of John when Cousin Lyle Gibson reconnected with the Alabama Gilmore branch.
Also in the 1990s, descendants of Stephen and Eugeneus Gilmore began gathering together for reunions throughout the U.S., including Texarkana, Arizona, Chicago, Dallas, and Toledo.
In 2019, four lines of Russell and Minta’s descendants attended the Gilmore Family Reunion! While we socially-distanced during the pandemic, the family organized a virtual reunion to continue our traditions. Since our last reunion, we’ve traced and located more descendants!
We’re excited to welcome them to the 2025 reunion and make it our BIGGEST reunion yet!
